Friday Kahlo at the MFAH

We visited the exhibit and discussed Frida’s work specifically in the context of realism. Was Frida a surrealist? A magical realist? Frida said: “They thought I was a surrealist, but I was not. I never painted dreams, I painted my reality.” How can this quote help us understand her work, and our own, against the backdrop of realist art?
